How to use Slideshow as background

See example here
1) make your header structure something like this:
<div id="header">
      <div class="slideshow">
      <div id="logo">
          <h1>title here</h1>
2) use "z-index" and "position:absolute" in your CSS:
#header {
    height: 140px;
    margin: 0 auto;
    width: 960px;
.slideshow {
    position: absolute;
    z-index: 1;
#logo {
    background: url("/uploads/logo.png");
    height: 90px;
    position: absolute;
    text-align: center;
    width: 270px;
    z-index: 10;
3) Set your Slideshow settings:
Window mode to Transparant and your Animationtype to SWFobject.

have someone solved the 'menu-behind-showtime' issue?

To work around this problem adjust Add the "z-index: 100;" to your <u class"nav...?">.
For example I use "#nav ul" in my Menu structure:
#nav ul {
    position: absolute;
    left: -999em;
    height: auto;
    width: 151px;
    font-weight: normal;
    line-height: 20px;
    border: 0;
    1px solid #E3E0D5;

Showtime icon does not show on the TinyMCE WYSIWYG options as an icon.

Ok you prob. forgot one important step.
When you want the icon in yoiur TinyMCE WYSIWYG, you need to follow these steps:
1) Goto your TinyMCE WYSIWYG options, vink on showtime_picker. (see img)

2) klick on tab : "Profiles" Scroll down until you see "Advanced backend profile settings". there you see 3 toolbars. I always pick the second,  but this is up to you. Then you add this code: " "showtime_picker," . Press Save button !

and your done.
Hope this 'll help.

Question: is there a way to make the borders rounded?

for round borders, the Flash annimation is fixed and can't be changed.
But you can make rounded borders, by using Div's.
copy this code in you CSS template:
     -moz-border-radius:8px 8px 8px 8px;
     border:1px solid #ccc;

Now place your showtime between div in your content:
<div class="roundedshowtime">{Showtime show='3' }</div>

Voila see result:
